What It's For
Final Draft is designed from the ground up for screenwriting. It will take you all the way from basic formatting to properly managing daily revisions during production on big budget feature films.

Final draft is specifically designed for writing:
- Movie Scripts
- TV Episodes
- Stageplays
Final Draft combines powerful word processing with professional script formatting in one self-contained easy-to-use package. There is no need to learn about script formatting rules - Final Draft automatically paginates and formats for you.
Writing partners take note: Final Draft is the only specialized script processor that lets you easily move files between Windows and Macintosh computers without having to convert files.
How It's Used
Final Draft's interface is so easy to understand and operate that you will be up and writing in no time. There are no style sheets to build, no complicated commands to learn. For the beginning writer, the built-in settings will make even your first script look professional. For the working writer, producer, or director, Final Draft is packed with powerful features geared for the rigors of production scripts.
BUILT IN CHARACTER LIST--Repetitive entering of character names is a thing of the past. With Final Draft's Character List, enter just enough letters to match the desired character's name and Final Draft types in the rest of the name instantly. Or, type a new name directly into the script and Final Draft immediately adds it to the list, ready for the next time it is needed.
CARRIAGE RETURN SHORTCUTS--Just hit the carriage return key to toggle from Character to Dialogue, from slug line to action, or from any element to any other element.
MASTER ELEMENTS TABLE--When you start a new script, Final Draft presets all the margins and styles to Hollywood standards - ready for you to start typing
without any further setup or customization. But perhaps your script is too long or too short, or you want to change from Film to
TV format. It's a snap with Final Draft's Elements Table! Make all the format changes you want, click OK and the entire script
is reformatted according to your specifications. The table is also expandable, allowing you to create custom formats to fit your
individual needs..
BUILT-IN SPELL CHECKER/THESAURUS--A 120,000 word spell-checker and a several hundred thousand word thesaurus which includes synonyms, antonyms, related and contrasting words, are both built right into Final Draft. You can also build script-specific dictionaries to add your own terminology.
PROFESSIONAL PRINTOUTS--Your printouts will have a professional look from the first page to the last. Revision marks and A & B pages are a snap as your script changes during production. In addition, a host of specialty reports, from Scene Report to a Character List or ScriptNote report, can be printed with a click of the mouse.
SCRIPT NOTES--ScriptNotes lets you create floating "Note" windows that can contain anything from comments about a scene to fragments that you don't want to delete or forget. Review them as you scroll through your script or print out a ScriptNote report which contains a compilation of all your ScriptNotes..
EXTENSIVE IMPORTING--Existing scripts in Microsoft Word and other formats can be imported into Final Draft, ready for viewing, rewriting, and printing. Included is a utility program, "Text File Converter", which will take almost any text file and figure out what is what, from dialogue to transitions, and make it ready for importing into Final Draft.
Who Needs It
Final Draft is a good choice for writers, script supervisors and production managers. It will take your ideas from initial draft all the way through final revisions during production. It's ability to handle multiple revisions with A-B pages and scenes has made it a studio favorite. Since the Macintosh version is Mac-native (rather than being a converted Windows program), it remains the best choice for anyone working on Macintosh. .
